What I Like About Food

Every meal counts
Stella’s Cafe and Bakery
1895 Grant Avenue
party of 2
arrived 9pm, Tuesday in January
[full disclosure: friends of mine work at different Stella’s locations…so my opinion may be biased. BUT, they don’t know about this blog.]
I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a Stella’s review here yet, because I’ve eaten at various locations dozens of times.  Each Stella’s location has a unique vibe, the Grant&Kenaston location is more suburban than others. All locations seem to have identical menus and the quality of food is excellent across the board.
The breakfast menu is exactly what you want a breakfast menu to be (and you can have it morning, noon, or night). If you’re in the mood for something that’s not breakfast, my favourite item is the chicken burger.
If possible, try to snag a piece of toast — to be clear: the toast is a vehicle for Stella’s Jam. Do everything you can to restrain yourself from drinking the jam directly from the jar. If you’re unable to restrain yourself, those around you will forgive you. It’s THAT good.
The bread is amazing (they bake it from scratch every day at their bakery on Sherbrook); I was only half-kidding about the vehicle-for-jam comment.
Take out-of-town guests to Stella’s. It’s got a nice Winnipeg feel, and the food’s fantastic. They’re also licensed (which never hurts).
